Have you been watching the news concerning the removing of the conscience clause for doctors and nurses? Or did you notice the Government removing their time honored duty to the veterans of our nation by removing their duty to care for veterans with service connected disabilities? Or did you notice…
Did you notice the news? Was it really news or just more of the same – same commentators making the same complaints using the same logic and raking the same people over the coals of their wrath?
Why not try getting your news from the bible? For example, John 3:16:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
Now imagine the headlines: God has gone crazy! What in the world is God up to? Believe it or not: God loves us in our world!
What great news it is that God can love us! In the media there are many reports of people stealing, murdering, gossiping, fighting, hating, cheating, and most of all lying. What a surprise that God can still love us. How much greater is God’s love than our human love! Our human love fails when our sister or brother makes us mad, takes our money or gets us in trouble. Our human love fails when we fake our way through life. Our human love is lost when we are not connected to God or when we cut ourselves off from God by sin. Being cut off from God or disconnected from God by sin leaves us empty and incapacitated to love. For God wants us to be with him for all eternity, what better news can you receive than that?
Has your human love been drained? Taken for granted? Taken advantage of?
“But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,
so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.” (Jn 3:21)
Our mission: May Christ’s grace renew us to exercise his gifts!
(see Rom 12:4-6)
During this season of Lent, break into spring by breaking open your heart to God’s love and grace. In a very concrete way show your best friend, your spouse, your parents how much God has loved them by making them a greeting card that says God loves you and so do I, or by washing dishes as if you were washing them for Christ or by doing the laundry as if you were doing it for Mary the Mother of God. Little things done with great love open your heart and their heart to God’s outpouring of Love! Be reconciled with one another, with God above all things and recognize the good news!
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
May God bless your Lenten Journey, Fr. Rob
