I always wonder how many people believe that we have finished celebrating Easter. It is my duty to enlighten all those who think that Easter is over that we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The time of year from the Easter Vigil until the Celebration of Pentecost is the Easter Season and it is during this season that we celebrate all the things that Jesus did after his death on the cross.
There is even a popular devotion called the “Stations of the Resurrections” or the “Way of Light.” The Stations of the Resurrection are similar to the Stations of the Cross except we meditate on the resurrection events and the appearances of Jesus. I have listed a popular version of the Stations of the Resurrection. Meditate on the Resurrection of Jesus. Take some time to go through the Church with your bible and stop at the 14 Stations of the Cross yet meditate on the 14 stations of the Resurrection.
The most common “Stations of the Resurrection:”
1. Jesus is raised from the dead
2. The empty tomb
3. Mary Magdalene meets the risen Jesus
4. Jesus appears on the road to Emmaus
5. Jesus is known in the breaking of bread
6. Jesus appears to the disciples in Jerusalem
7. Jesus gives the disciples his peace and the power to forgive sins
8. Jesus strengthens the faith of Thomas
9. Jesus appears by the Sea of Tiberias
10. Jesus forgives Peter and commands him to feed his sheep
11. Jesus commissions the disciples upon the mountain
12. The Ascension of Jesus
13. Mary and the disciples wait in prayer
14. The Holy Spirit descends at Pentecost
Most of these stations appear in the following scripture passages: Matthew chapter 28; Mark chapter 16; Luke chapter 24; John chapters 20 through 21; Acts of the Apostles chapters 1 through 2. Just as easy as it is to meditate on the pain and suffering try meditating on the Joy and Healing and Peace that comes with the resurrection! Pray it! Live it!
Other possible stations or Resurrection events in Scripture that you can meditate on are: The earthquake, The angel appears to the women, Jesus meets the women, Mary Magdalene proclaims the Resurrection to the disciples, Jesus and the beloved disciple, Jesus appears to over five hundred at once, Jesus appears to Saul.
Live the Resurrection! Meditate on the Scriptures! Conform your life to the resurrected Lord who saves us from our sins!
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
