Dear Parents & Guardians:

Deo Gratias—Thanks be to God! We have much to give thanks for as we began the year singing thanks to God and offering praise for bringing us all together as one body in Christ.

As I learn all your children’s names, I, too, give thanks to you for affording us the opportunity to teach your children. They are such special gifts of God—may we all provide them with the love Christ brings into our hearts. Mass was quite special this morning. Thank you for sending your children to school prepared, physically and spiritually, to again, give thanks and praise to God. You might ask them about the song Fr. Robert taught them this morning that he brought back with him from Australia at World Youth Day.

We also give thanks to those whose benevolence has blessed us: Deacon Ron and Barb Michieli for plates, cups, and napkins; Jerry Guerin for the donated books; the Trudy Dowlin Estate for office supplies; Robert and Tamara Pollart for the beautiful couch; Jason and Christy Brake of Brighton for contributing office desks and bookcases; and Ruth Skerjanec of Broomfield for the $23,000 contribution to the textbook fund. We are truly blessed!

I have a couple of reminders for you. First, please drop your children off on Beech Street north of the school. Third Street is quite busy, and the parking lot to the south of the school is for Hospitality Insurance, the business that occupies that building. Please be mindful of their need for that area. Second, this is a reminder that if you pay or mail your tuition to the school or parish office, please make checks payable to St. Anthony Catholic School, not to SMART. We appreciate your attention to this.

As another reminder, I would like to inform you we will be holding Back-to-School Night this upcoming Wednesday, August 27 at 6:30 pm. We will first meet for introductions and a general meeting, and then you will have an opportunity to visit the classrooms and to meet the teachers. Please make it a point to come. As I mentioned in the back-to-school letter, you are the single most important person in your child’s education. It is very important for you to attend—and your children will appreciate it since the class with the highest parent-attendance percentage will win a pizza party.

As many of you know, the Gala is a major fundraiser for the school—this is perhaps an understatement, but time and talent is especially needed to make this event successful. I am, again, encouraging all of you to attend a kick-off meeting this Tuesday, August 26 in the cafeteria at 7:00 pm. If you have questions, please contact Chas Lengfelder whom we appreciate so much for the work he does.

Also, if you haven’t committed to volunteer, we will have sign-up sheets available at Back-to-School Night. You can contribute your time and talent through a myriad of opportunities from attending PTSO meetings (which we encourage all to attend each month) to helping with the Beer Garden at the Logan County Fair each August. Please remember that if you volunteer to work directly with the children, you will need to receive Safe Environment training. We are offering three different sessions for your convenience.

The first session will be Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 pm; the second one on Saturday, September 13 at 9:00 am; and a third in Ft. Morgan at St. Helena’s at 10:00 am. We look forward to seeing you there.

We have some rather exciting news this morning from Tracy Kmets, the Communications Officer for the Archdiocese. Raymond Arroyo, the news director for EWTN, has interviewed Archbishop Chaput, O.F.M., and their conversation will air tonight at 6:00 pm on the program, “The World Over.” Additional showings of the program will occur tonight at 9:00 pm; Sunday, August 24 at 2:00 pm; and Monday, August 25 at 6:00 am and 7:00 pm.

We have some accounting information to share with you. The aluminum cans you have contributed brought in $16.45, Cartridges for Kids—$28.75, and Our Family labels—$50.00. This is also a prime opportunity to contribute to www.mycokerewards.com/schools. If you cannot contribute online, we will have a box available in the office for you to bring in the caps, and Becky Japp has graciously offered to enter the numbers.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to share fourth-quarter Honor Roll from last spring:
